Obituary

PETERSBURG, IL – Mark S. Metzger, 58, passed away Saturday, April 21, 2018, at Memorial Medical Center.

Mark was born in Springfield on April 28, 1959.  He was one of three sons born to Robert and Ruth (Vogel) Metzger, both of whom preceded him in death.  He married and was the beloved husband of Lisa Butler whom he married in 2007 at the Rutledge Tavern at Lincoln's New Salem in Petersburg, where they met.  He was "dad" to the countless dogs that shared his life.

Mark was a graduate of PORTA High School.  He held many jobs around Menard County since his youth.  He retired from the Menard County Sheriff's Department as a dispatcher and part-time deputy.  He was the former co-owner of the Plaid Rooster Café in Petersburg, which was a dream of his, to own a restaurant.

Mark will forever be remembered by his brothers, Timothy (Annette) of Ocala, Florida and Paul (Karen) of Petersburg and his nephew Jesse and nieces, Ashley, Sarah, Samantha, Shawna, and Whitney, and great nieces, Giada, Eva and Evelyn, and great nephew baby James who is set to arrive anytime and countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know him.

Mark enjoyed hunting, fishing, photography, driving his tractor, remodeling homes, making duck calls, working in his shop, teaching youth his carpentry skills, and  most of all, spending time with family and  friends.  Mark loved his family and many friends and all the dogs that shared his life.  He touched the lives of many people with his endless generosity, and had the ability to make a friend of anyone he came in contact with.  He never met a stranger.  He thought everyone deserved a chance and hired many residents of the gray-bar hotel doing whatever craft at which they excelled.

Friends and family are invited to attend a Celebration of Life at Wankel's in Petersburg, 18239 Kelly Street, Petersburg on Saturday, May 5, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. until the last story is shared.  Camouflage is encouraged.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Menard Animal Protection (MAP), 125 West Concord Drive., Petersburg, IL. 62675.
