SHERMAN – Mary Don Frey, 79, passed away Monday, September 15, 2025, at her home.
She was born in Taylorville on May 5, 1946, to Damian and Thelma (May) Donaldson, both of whom preceded her in passing. She was also preceded in passing by her brothers, Bob Donaldson and Larry Donaldson; sister, Janet Smith; sister-in-law, Sherry Whalen; and stepmother, Imogene Donaldson.
She married Richard "Rick" E. Frey on August 6, 1966, in Virden.
Mary Don was a 1964 graduate of Girard High School and completed her radiology/x-ray technician training at Memorial Hospital. She was hired by Memorial Hospital to administer Cobalt treatments to cancer patients. She went on to be a well-respected x-ray technician caring for many patients over the years at Doctor's Park, The Medical Group, Lincoln Memorial Hospital and Springfield Family Practice retiring in 2014. She loved watching her children and grandchildren compete in sporting events. She enjoyed traveling and especially enjoyed trips with Rick to Alaska, Hawaii and Florida where they traveled many roads on their Harley trike. She loved her home on Sunset Lake where she spent much of her time tending to her yard and watching the many birds. She was the most die-hard Cincinnati Bengals fan and had the Bengal Bug to prove it.
She is survived by her husband, Rick; her canine companion, Linus; children, Jerrod Frey, Adrienne (Brian) Murphy and Nathan Frey; grandchildren, Riley (Emily) Murphy, Braeden Frey, Cody Frey, Jack Murphy, Adelynne Frey, Zach Frey, Edson Frey, Nathan Frey, Evelyn Frey, Fulton Frey and Augustine Frey; great-grandchildren, Mason, Weston and Harper; brother, Tom (Donna) Donaldson; sister-in-law, Ruth Ann Donaldson; brothers-in-law, Roger (Pat) Frey, Rodney (Janet) Frey and Jim Whalen; uncles, Andrew Donaldson and David Donaldson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. Friday, September 19, 2025, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Casual attire is requested for the visitation. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 20, 2025, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow in Union Chapel Cemetery in Girard.
The family requests no flowers but encourages contributions be made to Benld Adopt-A-Pet or Animal Protective League in honor of her fur baby, Linus.
