SPRINGFIELD, IL – Matthew R. Cottrill, 31, passed away Saturday, March 12, 2022, at St. John's Hospital.

He was born February 28, 1991, to Ronald and Sheila (Keen) Cottrill. He was preceded in death by his father and paternal grandparents.

Matt was a U.S. Army veteran, serving as a corrections specialist. He enjoyed online gaming and shooting sports.

He is survived by his daughter, Hayleigh Alice Marie Cottrill; his mother and stepfather, Sheila and Tom Dial; sister, Kelley Cottrill (Robert Gristy); nephew, Aiden O'Neill; maternal grandmother; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and many friends across the world he met through his love of online gaming.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10 a.m. until 12 p.m. Monday, March 28, 2022, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A graveside service will follow the gathering at 1 p.m. at Camp Butler National Cemetery.
