Max Sanders, 72, of Springfield, Illinois, passed away on November 5, 2024, at his home.

He was born March 12, 1952, in Mt. Vernon, Illinois, to Maxie M. Sanders and Beulah Fern Shell Sanders.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, and sisters Mary Lamar and Karen Kirk.

Max is survived and will be greatly missed by two daughters: Erin Sanders of New York, New York, and Kaitlyn Sanders of New Haven, Connecticut, and two sisters: Sue Elwood of Salem, IL, and Gale Golino of Mt. Vernon, IL, as well as multiple nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Max graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1971. He was employed by the U.S. Postal Service for 22 years. Max enjoyed listening to his album collection and attending live rock and bluegrass concerts. He loved the outdoors and enjoyed camping trips and exploring State and National Parks.

Cremation was provided by Vancil-Funeral Home. Visitation will take place at Newell Funeral Home in Mt. Vernon, IL, on December 14 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. followed by a graveside memorial service at 1:30 p.m. at West Salem Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the National Parks Conservation Association or the Natural Resources Defense Council.
