Peggy Joy Mulligan-White passed away on March 9, 2026 in Springfield, Illinois.

Born on November 16, 1938, Peggy was the youngest daughter of the late Theodore R. and Margaret Ellen (Werscheid) Mulligan.
Peggy attended Beardstown schools and graduated with the Class of 1956 from Beardstown High School.  Besides being an Honor Student, she excelled in being a cheerleader and performing in cantatas and school plays - the latter playing a big part in her being chosen as an extra in the Warner Brothers film "The Awakening Land" filmed at Clayville and Riverside Park, Springfield, Illinois.  The Mini-series featured Elizabeth Montgomery, Hal Holbrook and Jane Seymour.

Peggy's career was secretarial starting at Central Illinois Public Service Co. and continuing with Beardstown Division Electrical Office and Cass County State's Attorney Office. She served as the Cass County Board Secretary and ended up as an Executive Secretary to the late Senator John L. Knuppel.  She also served the Senator as his Committee Clerk for the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Conservation and Energy. The Senate position enabled her to help many people, including family and friends, during her employment with the Illinois State Senate.
Peggy was married once to William J. White on February 10, 1959 at First Lutheran Church in Beardstown, Illinois.  To this union no children were born.

She was confirmed a Roman Catholic at Christ The King Parish in 1983 by Monsignor John Bretz and is still a member.
Family was always everything to Peggy. She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Betty, Jacqueline and Anne; brother, A.J; and many cherished uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins and many friends.

She is survived by her forever sister-cousin Nancy Wedeking who was there for her all through her life, through good times and bad, and who made a home for her during her later years.

Peggy will be missed by many, but her kindness, infectious laugh and never ending witty one-liners will carry her memory well into the future.
