SPRINGFIELD – Rachel "Sue" Richards, 84, passed away Friday, February 24, 2023, at Arcadia Care in Jacksonville.

She was born July 2, 1938 to Lawson and Dorothy (Hudson) Hamilton.  She married Robert Richards on April 27, 1968. He preceded her in death on February 2, 2023.

Sue was formerly employed as a receptionist/insurance specialist at the dental offices of Dr. Leonard Giannone and Dr. Robert Wenneborg. She played the clarinet in high school and later took up the piano and organ and played in churches for many years. Later in life, she also took up the bass guitar. Sue loved to cook, garden, do crossword puzzles and was an avid reader. She had many beloved dogs.

She is survived by her children, Tim Harte and Lisa Harte; grandson, Nathaniel Harte; sister, Sylvia McGroarty; one niece and three nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 2, 2023, at Roselawn Memorial Park, with Reverend Bennie Fisher officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Protective League.
