CHATHAM – Richard Dale Dennis, 70, passed away Saturday, November 5, 2022, at his home.

He was born March 19, 1952, to William and Mary (Shearburn) Dennis. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Kenneth and Alan.

Richard was a US Army veteran, serving during the Vietnam era. He had participated in the Land of Lincoln Honor Flight in 2016. Richard worked as a Quality Control Auditor at Caterpillar in Decatur until his retirement. He had also worked many years at Honeywell/Hobbs, AgMed and Dickey-John. He enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting, watching cooking and baking shows, and keeping up with the newest technology.

He is survived by his daughters, Shannon (Steve) Blum of Chatham and Tisha Cook of Springfield; 6 grandchildren including Elizabeth and Logan Blum of Chatham; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary (Victor) Valencia of Smithton; brother, William (Sandie) Dennis of Divernon; several nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Aunt Bea.

A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of memorial service at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2022 at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Pastor Larry Hanson officiating.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Land of Lincoln Honor Flight.
