SPRINGFIELD, IL – Richard Dettling, 63, passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at his home.

He was born in Springfield on March 2, 1955, to Earl and Edna (Matthews) Dettling, both of whom preceded him in death.

Richard retired from JC Penney. He was very active in the theatre, creating prop sets for the Hoogland Center and helping at other theatres. He enjoyed collecting theatre memorabilia, especially play bills from around the world. He had an extensive CD collection. He loved animals, especially dogs, and had many friends and acquaintances. A highlight of his life was a cruise to Russia.

He is survived by his brother, Robert Dettling.

Per Richard's request, no services are planned.
