PLEASANT PLAINS – Robert "Bob" L. Mayes, 81, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born March 8, 1943 to Frederick and Norma (Hay) Mayes. He married Sue Nelson Keyes on November 20, 1987 in Springfield.

Robert was a valued employee at Oscar Mayer for many years before retiring from the State of Illinois. He was a faithful member of the West Side Christian Church and was known for his artistic talent in welding artwork out of horseshoes and his ability to fix anything. He was also a farmer and a good steward of his land.

He is survived by his wife, Sue; his daughter, Lesa (Paul) Myers; step-children, Becky Boyer and Patrick (Kelly) Keyes; grandchildren, Alex Myers and Slade (Randi) Myers; step-grandchildren, Gracie and Cooper Keyes; and sisters, Ruth Ann (Butch) Hobrock and Debbie (Tony) Martin, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, and a sister.

The family will host a memorial gathering from 10 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 3, 2025, at Berlin Christian Church, with Warren Brosi officiating.
