SPRINGFIELD, IL – Ronald H. Hughes, Sr., 78, passed away Monday, April 26, 2021, at Memorial Medical Center.

He was born October 11, 1942, to Onie Leslie and Ruby Maye Hughes. He married Sharon Tuxhorn, and they later divorced.

Ronald graduated from Lanphier High School, Class of 1962. Following graduation, he attended Springfield Barber College. He owned and operated Ron's Barber Supply. He worked for Springfield Municipal Jail as an officer and then worked for Springfield Park District as an officer. Ronald served as Sergeant for the Jerome Police Department and served 7 years with the Sangamon County TAC Team. He retired after 30 years of service in law enforcement.

He is survived by his beloved Carol Smith; sons, Ronald (Becky) Hughes, Jr., and Clinton (Kristine) Hughes; 9 grandchildren, Aaron, Krystal, Josie, Devan, Maxwell, Benjamin, Ronald III, Andrew and April; 5 great-grandchildren, Emma Miles, Jackson, Rilynn and one on the way; and brother, Leslie "Sonny" Hughes.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 8, 2021, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Waverly East Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 55.
