Ruth Ellen Hoefs, 79, passed away surrounded by family on Monday, May 11, 2026.
She was born in Carlinville, IL, daughter of Marthella (Whitworth) and Frank Armour, Jr., both of whom preceded her in death.
Ruth is survived by a daughter, Kris (Tony) Martin of Rochester, IL; a son, Peter Hoefs of Jacksonville, IL; two grandchildren, Jack (Kimberly) Martin of Springfield, IL; Jenna (Mitchell) Martin of Chicago, IL; a sister, Alice Armour of Sherman, IL; a brother, Tom (Jeanne) Armour of Jacksonville; a niece, Tori (Bernie) Lornitis of Mechanicsburg, IL; and a nephew, Jordan Armour of White Hall, IL.
Ruth proudly served in the USAF and the Air National Guard. She retired after over 20 years of service. She was a member of Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church where she served as a trustee and volunteer.
Ruth enjoyed her retirement spending time with family and friends. She was active at her church and truly loved her DAUMC 'posse' and the ladies at Wooden it be Lovely.
Graveside service will take place on Friday, June 26 at 1:00 at Camp Butler National Cemetery with Rev. Meredith Manning Brown officiating. A celebration of life will be held at a later date at Douglas Avenue United Methodist Church in Springfield.
