Obituary

ATHENS – Teddy L. Williams, 68, formerly of Springfield, passed away Wednesday, May 6, 2026, in the comfort of his home.

He was born December 24, 1957, to Herman and Dorothy (Groth) Williams, both of whom preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Terry Williams. He married Deborah K. Harbour on November 26, 1977, in Springfield.

Teddy was the owner and operator of Williams Roofing and Construction for 49 years.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie; daughters, Misty (David) Williams, Amy (Mick) Aten and Rachel (David) Holzner; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; brother, Timothy Williams; sisters, Tammy Williams (Tom Horrighs) and Candy Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

Ted and Debbie were inseparable. Together they enjoyed quiet mornings with coffee on the porch and spontaneous rides and road trips wherever the truck took them.

In Ted's earlier years he enjoyed evening motorcycle rides with Debbie or one of the girls after a long day at work.

He looked forward to visiting with family and friends. It was no surprise for him to show up unannounced. The neighborhood kids would come and ask if Ted could come out and play and he always had a joke or trick up his sleeve for them. Going to the Rodeo with his Dad and family and watching bull riding was always a highlight for Ted.

In Ted's free time you could find him camping, going on golf kart rides, tinkering with woodworking, going to antique shops and starting some sort of project.

But Ted's real pride and joy were his grandchildren, Zakery (Ashley), Morgan, Ella, Maggie, Will, Molly and great-grand daughter, Lily. Rather he was just sitting and watching them or teasing them he had a smile on his face. He never missed a go-kart race with Will, turned down ice cream nights or any sports or school activities. He always showed up!

Visitation will be held from 5 until 7 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, with Pastor Josh Parsons officiating.
