Mathew Scott Murphy, Sr., 41, of Chatham, passed away Saturday, July 18, 2026, at his home.

He was born in Burlington, Iowa on May 20, 1985. He married Lisa Simmons on November 21, 2007. He was preceded in death by his step-father, Charles Muir and nephew, Brendon.

Mathew was honorably discharged from the US Army. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing and boating. He adored his children and cherished time spent with them.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa; children, Mathew Scott Murphy, Jr. and Caitlyn Jean Murphy; parents, Bonnie Crowe Muir and Randall Murphy; siblings, Justin Murphy and Lindsey Grumadas; and several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, August 21, 2026, at Camp Butler National Cemetery with military honors rendered by the Department of Defense - Army.
