Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Our precious Violet Josephine Powless, infant daughter of Emily and Cord Powless, passed away on September 10, 2023.

Violet was born on Friday, April 28, 2023, at St. John's Hospital in Springfield, Illinois. She enjoyed walks in the park, cuddling, hugs and kisses from mommy and daddy, and endless snuggles with family and friends. A beautiful baby girl who touched so many lives in such a short time. She was loved and adored by all who met her and will be greatly missed. Though her time on this earth was brief, Violet's impact was profound. Her bright eyes and infectious personality warmed our hearts and brought smiles to those who were fortunate enough to know her. She was a beacon of light, reminding us all of the beauty and innocence that resides in the youngest among us.

Violet's passing leaves a void that can never be filled, but her memory will live on in the hearts of her loving parents, Cordell and Emily Powless, and all those who adored her. She may have only been with us for a short while, but her presence touched us in ways that will be cherished forever.

Violet is survived by her parents, Emily and Cord Powless; grandparents, Dennis McGee of Elkhart, Andrea McGee of Taylorville and John Powless of Olney; uncle, Jordan McGee of Elkhart; aunt, Heidi Powless of Olney; uncle, Taylor and aunt, Michelle Powless of Wisconsin; fur baby, Autumn, as well as many great-aunts, great-uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her grandmother, Helen Powless; great-grandparents, James and Norma McGee, Raymond Harold and Ina Josephine Koonce, John and Deloris Powless, and Virginia and Carroll Sulsberger; and cousins, Sarah McGee and Alex Mack.

Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. until the time of a funeral service at 6 p.m. Thursday, September 14, 2023, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home, 437 S. Grand Avenue W., Springfield, IL, with Pastor Larry Hanson officiating. Private graveside services will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions in the name of Violet J. Powless may be made to HSHS St. John's Children's Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Rest in peace, sweet Violet. Your memory will forever bloom in our hearts like the beautiful flower you were named after. You will be missed but never forgotten. As we say our tearful goodbyes, let us remember the bright, little soul who brought love and light into our lives daily.
