SPRINGFIELD – Virginia L. Cody, 84, passed away Monday, September 29, 2025 at Sunny Acres.

She was born March 9, 1941 to Paul and Daisy (Applegate) Miller. She was preceded by her first husband, M. Lloyd Peavy; second husband, Bill Cody; son, Rodney Peavy; brother, Richard Miller; and sisters, Joyce Rhodes, Paula Perko, Martha Ketchum and Gladys Koonce.

Virginia was an accountant for the State of Illinois Comptroller's office, retiring in 2003. She was a faithful member of Trinity Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by her children, Paul (Janice) Peavy, Grady (Carla) Peavy and Tish Messman; grandchildren, Connor Messman, Tayler Messman and Kaylie Peavy; sister, Mary (Dan) Deatherage; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of a funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 2, 2025, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home with Pastor Ron Waltrip officiating. Burial will follow in Roselawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
