Warren E. Shufeldt , lover of poetry and seeker of simplicity , died at home on Saturday, February 23, 2019, surrounded by family.

He was born to Eugene D. and Margaret ( Warren ) Shufeldt in Klamath Falls, Oregon , on March 21, 1942. Soon after, the family returned to Kinmundy , Illinois, where his parents were born, and Warren and his brother Robert grew up on the family farm.

After graduating from Kinmundy High School, Warren went on to earn a B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign.  He taught at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay; supervised the installation of the first computers at Springfield's Memorial Medical Center where he served for ten years as the Director of Information Systems ; and founded and ran his own computer software business , VS Information Services .

In his retirement , Warren enjoyed watching birds and squirrels from his front porch; calculating prime numbers; and mailing jokes and cartoons to family . H e could often be spotted walking in his central Springfield neighborhood distributing copies of his favorite poems and homemade magnets which encouraged community, peace, justice, and the common good.

He is survived by his wife Gabrielle ( D'Elia ); daughter Madeleine (Kevin Esch ) of Providence, R.I.; son Gregory (Kate) of Indianapolis; grandson Charlie Esch. Other beloved family members include nephew Luke D'Elia and sisters-in-law Florence D'Elia and Patricia Shufeldt. One brother, Robert, died February 2018.

Arrangements pending. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Kinmundy .
