Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – William E. Woodrum, Sr., 89, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at Springfield Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 1, 1936, to Delbert and Lola (Long) Woodrum. He married Cheryl Olds on June 5, 1965 in Springfield. She preceded him in death in 2007. He was also preceded in death by his son, Billy Woodrum, Jr.; brother, Delmar "Bud" Woodrum; sister, Ella "Pat" Boone; and dear friend, Louise Purdom.

Bill served with the US Army National Guard. He was previously employed with Allis Chalmers and later retired from the Illinois Department of Revenue. Bill was a long time member of Pasfield Baptist Church and also attended Chatham Baptist Church. He was an avid sports fan and supporter of all New York sports teams and Indiana Hoosiers. Bill had a zest for life and loved to laugh and attend social gatherings.

He is survived by his daughters, Sandi (John) Redshaw and Lynn White; grandchildren, Nicholas Shields, Abigail Shields and Cody White; sister-in-law, Betty Woodrum; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Old Salem Cemetery.
