Brian D. Murphy
President, Licensed Funeral Director and CCO
Brian is a licensed funeral director/embalmer and the President of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home and Premier Cremation Services. He is also a Certified Crematory Operator (CCO) and licensed life insurance producer. A lifelong Springfield resident and the son of George and Margaret (Layendecker) Murphy, he graduated from Little Flower Grade School and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. Brian attended Lincoln Land Community College and is a graduate of Worsham College of Mortuary Science in Wheeling, Illinois.
Brian began working in the funeral industry when he was 16 years old. Seeing his career opportunity, he worked his way up from cutting grass and washing cars to become a licensed funeral director. Brian previously worked with two Springfield funeral homes before joining the staff of Vancil Memorial Funeral Chapel in 1999. In 2005, he purchased the funeral chapel from Russell L. Vancil, Jr.
Brian married Adrienne L. Frey of Sherman. He enjoys spending time with her and their two sons, Riley and Jack, and their Miniature Pinschers, Steve, Daisy, and Fritz. He also enjoys boating, fishing, and working in the yard. He is an avid Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals fan.
Brian is a current member of Blessed Sacrament Church, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, the Illinois Funeral Directors Association Convention Committee, the National Funeral Directors Association, the Cremation Association of North America, and the National Federation of Independent Business.
Today, even as the owner of the funeral home, Brian still enjoys cutting the grass and washing the cars.

Riley D. Murphy
Vice-President, Licensed Funeral Director and CCO
Riley D. Murphy is a licensed funeral director/embalmer and Vice President of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home and Premier Cremation Services. He is also a Certified Crematory Operator (CCO). Born and raised in Springfield, he is a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and is a 2015 graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, where he was a member of the varsity soccer team.
The son of Brian and Adrienne Murphy, he has grown up in the funeral home and decided to follow in his father’s footsteps. He attended Lincoln Land Community College and is a 2018 graduate of Carl Sandburg College, earning his degree in Mortuary Science. The daughter of Rick and Mary Don Frey, she was raised in the Sherman/Williamsville area, where she graduated from Williamsville Junior High. She is a graduate of Sacred Heart-Griffin High School, where she was a four-year member of the volleyball team. She continued her education and volleyball career at Culver-Stockton College in Canton, MO, and later attended the University of Illinois Springfield.
Adrienne married Brian D. Murphy of Springfield. While raising their sons, Riley and Jack, Adrienne was employed as the assistant director at Beginning Steps Child Development Center in Rochester. She joined the staff of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home on a full-time basis in 2006. She is a licensed life insurance producer.
Adrienne enjoys spending time with her family and their Miniature Pinschers, Steve, Daisy, and Fritz. She enjoys boating, fishing, bird watching, gardening, and playing board games with her boys. George L. Murphy
Lead Funeral Assistant
George L. Murphy is Lead Funeral Assistant for Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home. He was born in Springfield and is a member of the fourth generation of the Murphy family in Springfield. He is the son of George L. and Mary Virginia (Skube)Murphy. His father worked for the United States Postal Service, and his mother was a homemaker.
George graduated from Cathedral Grade School, Griffin High School, Springfield College in Illinois, and attended Sangamon State University. He served on the Springfield Police Department for thirty-one years, having started as a civilian radio operator and retired as Assistant Chief of Police. During his tenure, he served in nearly every capacity within the department. Some two thousand four hundred and thirty-three hours of training were undertaken during his law enforcement career. Many courses involved supervision, decision-making, critical incident command, and problem-solving. Several courses were geared toward the business aspect of the application. He joined the staff of Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home in 2001.
George married Springfield native and Ursuline Academy graduate, Margaret A. Layendecker. They are parents of three children, George L. Murphy III, Brian D. Murphy, and Elizabeth A. Murphy, all of Springfield, and six grandchildren.
George has a strong interest and commitment to the Springfield community. He has participated in civic and charitable organizations by serving on numerous committees: Big Brothers Big Sisters, United Way, Make-A-Wish Foundation, Mental Health Board of Central Illinois, and Griffin High School Booster Board.
He is a member of the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Eagles Club Aerie 437 and HICKS Crappie Club. He enjoys spending time with his grandchildren, fishing, grilling and watching sports.

Jack D. Murphy, SrA, USAF
Funeral Assistant/Grounds Maintenance Asst.
Senior Airman Jack D. Murphy is a funeral assistant and grounds and building maintenance assistant. A lifelong resident of Springfield, he is a graduate of Blessed Sacrament Grade School and Sacred Heart-Griffin High School. He is the youngest son of Brian and Adrienne Murphy. He is a licensed EMT and enlisted in the United States Air Force in June of 2019. He completed Basic Training in September of 2019 and Tech School for Command & Control Operations at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi, in November of 2019. After a twelve-month deployment to Turkey, Jack returned to the US in January 2021. He is currently stationed at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas, Nevada.
Jack enjoys helping his parents around the funeral home, assisting with visitations, funerals, grounds maintenance, and washing cars. In the winter, he also enjoys helping his dad with snow removal.
Jack enjoys boating, tubing, and is an avid fisherman. He is an excellent cook and enjoys trying new recipes with his mom. Like the rest of his family, he is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan. Unlike the rest of his family, he is a die-hard Chicago Cubs fan, but they love him anyway.

Senior Airman Jack D. Murphy is a funeral assistant and grounds and building maintenance assistant. Kim Krueger
Administrative Assistant
You have probably talked to Kim if you have called our funeral home. She is the person behind the voice most often answering your calls.
Kim has lived in the Springfield area all of her life. She has worked in the funeral industry for over 30 years, beginning at Federated Funeral Directors. She came to Vancil-Murphy Funeral Home in 2010, after several years with another Springfield funeral home.
Kim enjoys collecting cookbooks and baking. Unlike the rest of the staff, she does not enjoy boating and fishing.
